Son of former Arsenal player Brian Marwood, James Marwood began his career as a youth team player with Newcastle United.

He had brief spells with non-league Blyth Spartans and Team Northumbria before joining Gateshead in 2010, where he went on to make over 120 appearances for the club.

During his time with ‘The Heed’ he earned international honours with a call up to the England C team. Having been utilised as a winger, Marwood was often used as a striker in the season 2013–14, resulting in him being the club’s top goalscorer.

James was rewarded for that prolific season when SPL side St.Mirren came calling for his services. He signed for the Glasgow based club in the summer of 2014.

After cancelling his contract by mutual consent James signed for conference high flyers Forest Green Rovers helping them into the play-offs. James sensed an opportunity to return home and re-signed for Gateshead where he currently plays his football.

James is an FA Level 2 qualified coach and has applied for his UEFA B Licence.
